Meow and Tweet are Words of Love in Different Languages

There's a cat that lives on our block. His name is Fred. He's black with white spots or white with black patches. I guess it depends on your point of view. Fred doesn't care much one way or the other.

Like most toms, all he cares about are the birds. There’s one that he's been after for awhile. He's been chasing her for months and can't get his paws on her.

She dances just out of reach. When he pounces, she takes flight.

I think they are both quite happy with their situations.

She has a perpetual admirer; he has a goal for which to strive.

Peter Penguin had to be pinioned. The people feared his piercing stare and his big protruding proboscis. Dressing in a tuxedo could not hide his bizarre proportions or his permanent smile. Interspecies mating was still against the law in most states, against most religious beliefs and just plain creepy to the rest of the world.

     

3 Word Thursday – A New Old Fairy Tale

Today is Thursday so we use Quilly’s three archaic words to tell stories.

Today's words are:


facinorous: extremely wicked
extirpate: destroy completely; wipe out; surgically remove
hebdomadal: weekly; every seven days
Thumbelina had a hebdomadal routine that the Snow Fairy interrupted. That facinorous fey caused a blizzard to ravage Thumbelina’s neighborhood. Thumbelina looked out her window at the storm keeping her inside. She spotted a bird lying on the ground. The Snow Fairy had tried to extirpate all living things and it looked like she had at least one victim. Thumbelina wondered if she could bring the bird back to life.

A Poem a Day #4 - Copper Chickens

Poem a Day - For today’s prompt, I want you to pick an animal; make that animal the title of your poem; then, write a poem. You could be very general with your animal title (“Bees” or “Lion”) or specific (“Flipper” or “Lassie”). You could even be very silly with something like “Tony, the Tiger,” I guess (that tiger on the cereal box).

Copper Chickens

Barnyard fowl
roost in an aerie

strut in the yard
all bright and airy

copper chickens
with a nod and a bow

flap tawny wings
perched on a bough

plump fat hens
sisterhood clique

sing solidarity
cluck, clack, click

Carrion

Everyone is a zoilist nowadays. Critics are like sternutation without a tissue at hand.

I don't mind when people point out problems as long as they are willing to put forth solutions or put effort into changing things.

Complaining without attempting to correct is like the wasted paper in an anopisthograph or a scavenger waiting for something to die.
