The Sky is Falling

* comments closed on journal posts *

Snow. We have a snow storm bearing down on us again. This one may even produce the amount of snow forecast. Previous storms were nothing to us. It’s 07.24. The clouds are heavy and large flakes are falling. So far the ground is just wet.

QV is sick. Has been since Saturday morning. He’s not a very good sick person. He doesn’t listen. I have to browbeat him into taking his Airborne and cold medicine to stop him coughing and help him sleep. He felt better Sunday afternoon and actually ate something. I wonder if I brought something home from the hospital. I have a sore throat but mine didn’t start until during the night last night while I was sleeping. I’m going to say he brought something home. It’s all QV’s fault.

Saturday night around 22.30, my father couldn’t pee. His bladder got distended and he was in pain. My parents did not call us. At 04.30, my father drove himself and my mother to the emergency room. They called my brother at 06.00. Oh, their heater went out during the night, too. My father got a new catheter. Doctors said there was a clot in his urethra. They all went home. My brother got them settled, had the heater man out, heater fixed. Then my father had two “accidents” so my brother feared that he had another clot. Back to the emergency room. The balloon around the catheter was only inflated one inch when it should have been inflated three inches. I’ll be calling my parents in about a half hour to see how they made out.

I drove myself crazy last week trying to think of the word “routine.” I have dysnomia, so I often have trouble thinking of the exact word I want for things. It’s why I don’t go on Jeopardy. Between that and my dyslexia, writing can be a challenge and time consuming. The dysnomia is another reason I am not a very good conversationalist. People get bored when every other word is thingamajig or doodgmahicky. Did you know that they are actual words? Spell check recognized them.

My routine got knock completely out of whack last week and I was not happy. I just got done setting it up and had plans to follow it to some successful writing last Monday. Instead, I spent the week in and out of the hospital and doctor's office. Maybe I can start over today.

At the bottom of my posts, I had the star rating system. Someone gave my post entitled “RRRrrrrrrrr!” one star which means “I hate it.” I was so obsessed over that one star all weekend. I couldn’t figure out who gave it or why they hated it. Because I couldn’t get it out of my mind, I took the star rating out. It didn’t seem very helpful and I refuse to allow myself to be tortured by someone in a hood without the balls to say they didn’t like it to my face.

I will never go to the grocery store on a Sunday again. Those people were vicious. The place was packed and they all acted like they were the only ones in the store.

I think it’s time to re-read the Harry Potter series. I do it every couple of years. It’s like visiting a friend you know so well you don’t have to speak. You look each other in the eyes and laugh at a shared joke.

Quiet Vinnie and I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art back on October 17, 2012. He knows what he likes and he likes what he knows.

Can you see his reflection below, shaking his head, wondering what the hell I see in this painting?

Holy Mackerel

~click to make biggerer~

My husband, Quiet Vinnie (who is Irish and German [not Italian] and the reason why beer is a huge part of our home budget) turned 50 this summer.

I showed my love for him by letting everyone know he’s ancient. He did not care for the 50 fish in our front yard. He said it was because he was worried about our lawn irrigation system. He said the metal posts could puncture water hoses in the ground. I didn’t buy it. I think he was mad because so many people finally knew for sure that he’s a cranky old man, and not just cranky. Oh, I kid. Well, maybe not. Since QV thinks the internet is evil and never goes online, I can say anything I want about him. Cool, huh? It’s actually a shame he doesn’t blog because he’s very funny but he IS ancient, as I said, so he mistrusts all this new fangled stuff. He’s been telling “When I was a kid…” stories for 20 years already.

We had a big party for him on one of the hottest days of the year (99.7 degrees.) We were surprised that so many people showed up and then stayed as long as they did. The party began at 2 pm and ended at 1:30 am. I haven’t stayed up until 1:30 in the morning on purpose in forever. I felt like crap the next day.

We have a house designed for parties. In the back yard, we have a big bar that is covered. It has two ceiling fans. The trees are very mature (like QV – giggle, giggle) that shade our stone patio thus reducing the temperature in the back by about 10 degrees. There is an outhouse with running water. And a pool. This is where the trouble began and the inspiration for my floor show.

The kids went in and out of the pool and in and out of the house the way kids do. The floors in the kitchen are stone tiles. Combine these circumstances with my smooth soled flip flops and me rushing around like the most excellent hostess that I am and you get a big bang to rival the the original version. Good thing I take my calcium regularly and my ass is well padded.

I didn’t even know I hurt my elbow until some nice person pointed it out to me during the humiliating aftermath. The picture from yesterday’s post was taken the next day. It looked much worse as the days went by: the blues, greens and blacks spread all around and up and down my arm. The swelling was impressive. I still can’t straighten my arm all the way which helps me get out of housework, so I am happy.

That’s the story of how I became damaged goods.

I am ok. Nothing broken. I thank you all for your concern. And I thank you all for continuing to visit even though I disappear off and on. You all are the bestest ever!

5th Sister – Yes. I was completely sober. I know that is just wrong which was why I was punished by going boom on my bum.

Brian Miller – I was going to get more snacks for the people who were drinking. It was over before I knew it. The thing that got hurt the most was my pride.

Jeanie - I made a very loud noise when I hit the floor.

Thom – I was so busy I never made it to the Woo-woo’s. That was the problem.

Alice Audrey – I wasn’t feeling klutzy until afterwards but I will do anything to entertain my guests.

Quilly – The writing is going slower than I had planned. I am behind schedule. I am about half way through the first book.

TWT #2 - Bought and Paid

Quilly has a weekly game called Three Word Thursday. This is Week 2. Learn how to play and learn some new-old words. This is my second week in a row of joining in. Wow, that's bordering on consistency. Go see who else is playing.

Bought and Paid

I don't know anything about numismatics. As far as I am concerned, coins are for putting in soda machines or my numerous change jars or my jewelry box if they are pretty or different enough. I have no real idea of the value of any particular coin. I just know what I like and I like wheat pennies for some reason.

I also like to tempt fate by pretending that I am superstitious. I will make up little dares for the universe just to see if I get smote. So far I have no burn marks on my buttocks.

I married in 2001. At that time I was 43. I don't mind telling you that since we all know I turned 50 last year. I don't cry too much about it. Let's move on.

I had never been married before and neither had my fella.

QV (my husband) said to me one day:

"Wanna?"

"Sure, why not?"

I looked up from my book.

"Wanna what exactly?"

"Get married so we can have a party."

"Yeah, that sounds like a plan." (I warn you, this is an incredibly romantic story.)

So just for grins and giggles, I gave the powers that be an opportunity to dash my little girl hopes. I would cancel the nuptials unless I was able to find thirteen wheat pennies before the wedding. I figured if this was something the Big Guy wanted me to do after all these years he could give me a sign. I had six months to get my hint.

We rented the hall and I found one wheat penny in the parking lot. I sent out invitations and booked a caterer. I received a few of the required coins as change. The date of the event got closer but I still lacked my baker's dozen.

Imagine the fracas I caused when I began telling people we would have to call the event off because I only had eight pennies.

Being of perspicacious mind and not wanting to lose his wonderful catch, QV dumped the contents of all of our coin jars on the living room carpet and came up with the bride price.

Happy Birthday, QV

My husband, known here and at various drinking establishments as Quiet Vinnie (QV), has a Birthday today. Can you tell how old he is?

Pity Party Passed

Mercury being retrograde during October and November this year is really doing a number on those around me, which is effecting me and it’s also doing a number on me personally. I haven’t even had the energy or time to check the comments you’ve so kindly been leaving.

Just so you can all have a pity party for me and mine, I will tell you my sweet little puppy hurt his leg last Thursday and I was too sick to take care of him. I had to call my husband home from work (which I never, ever have done) so he could take the Codes to the vet. The Codles had no serious injury; it looks like he slipped on the tile floor and twisted his knee. He and I whined for several days. Make with the little violin thingy, go ahead.

So, I am recovering, as are all of the other people who have been bombarded around me. I am horribly behind now on NaNoWriMo, but do not despair, there’s still time to catch up there, too. These past two weeks have been a lesson to me that sometimes I need to go with the flow more instead of trying to bulldoze my way through things.

The weirdness factor is still operating but I think I know what that is about too (extra sleep from sickness sometimes has advantages.)

I’m sorry for neglecting you all, but it could not be helped. I will make the rounds this week and catch up. Here’s to hope.
