fluid

Lemonade hits the spot on a hot summer's day. Some people drink iced tea. I don't care for tea. The leafy, herbal flavor tastes bitter on my tongue. The sweet and sour of the yellow citrus beverage brings shivers with each sip. It's what I drink when I want something a bit stronger than plain water. I don't drink soda, either.

Gin and Tonic with a wedge of lime tastes good, too. I'm not opposed to an alcoholic drink. No prohibition bullshit for me. Some people can't handle their liquor, but I'm not like them, so I'm going to have a drink when I feel like. A Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon was best during Winter. They were heavier, warmer.

Milk went best with spaghetti. My mother's spaghetti. She wasn't Italian. She was German. Her spaghetti sauce was brown because it was mostly ground beef with lots of browned onions. The tomato sauce was just a condiment. There's be lots of left over spaghetti noodles. Those would be turned into a breakfast treat. She brown plain bread crumbs in butter, add the cooked noodles and top them with white sugar. Milk was a must with this dish, too.

Both of these noodle dishes are my favorite meals. They are my comfort foods. Literally. Both will put me into a carbohydrate stupor more effective than any calming drug. I need a lot of calming. Too much activity, too many questions, any excessive behavior must be squashed. Don't wiggle, jiggle or giggle. Have a cookie and be quiet.

Water is the best drink, though. Cold. I drink water all day. I prefer seltzer. The bubbles wake up my tongue. I don't know why the bubbles are good, but they make the water more yummy. I like the brand Vintage for my seltzer water and my tonic water. That brand has the best flavor for both.

I should have perfect skin and be the picture of health with all of the water I drink. I bet I'm more water than most people. Tests have shown that the average is 60% for the average male and 50% for the average female. Apparently, age, health, weight and sex all affect how much water is in a person's body. I think I must be at least 75% water. I'm an overachiever.

Oh, I almost forgot coffee. I don't really like coffee. I need it. First thing in the morning, I must have brewed coffee, black. A nice dark roast. I require two cups before anyone is even allowed to look at me. You'd be jeopardizing your life by talking to me before I've had three. Another two cups and I begin to function like a normal human being. I don't drink any coffee after eleven in the morning. I'd be up all night, the agitation creeping through my flesh and keeping my mind spinning. I don't like the taste of the stuff. It's bitter, but the idea of milk and sugar in it makes me queasy. The only way to have sweetened creamy coffee is as ice cream.

There's a Boom Deep in My Heart That Has Nothing to Do with You

~ click image to make biggerer ~

We drank a rich, deep, moon wine under the dark sky. Our moods matched the hint of smoked oak in the spirit and the violent wind buffeting the glass enclosing the porch where we sat.

“Thunder makes me feel alive.” I wasn’t really talking to her. I would have said the same thing and said it out loud even if I were alone.

“I hate thunder,” she said, breaking the spell I was under. “It scares me.”

And that’s the difference between us and why we never really connected.

Flash 55 - Wine, Women and ...

Wine, women and ... a sentiment first written of in fourteenth century Persia advocates Hedonism. Who can argue with the idea that an individual’s ultimate pleasure is the highest good that can be achieved? Certainly not I, bubala. In fact, I suggest you spend this weekend pleasuring yourself. How are you going to finish the phrase?

I had a great time with friends last night. We sat on my front porch, drank some wine and chatted for a couple of hours. Definitely a pleasure that must be repeated soon.

Did you see the beautiful full pink full moon last night? It wasn’t pink but orange when I looked at it. It’s called pink (in North America) because of a flower that blooms this time of year signalling the start of Spring. This was the first lunar eclipse (partial) this year but we couldn’t see it in the Americas. I hope you made your offerings to the Goddess. Pink is her favorite color. The next lunar eclipse will be May 25th and we should be able to see that one.

My new couch did not come yesterday. You know, you just can’t trust anyone. The salesmen made this big deal about the delivery date being yesterday and when I called customer service to say we didn’t get our call, what time are they coming, I was informed it was back ordered and not due until the 30th. Then, I looked at my sales slip and lo and behold, the delivery guarantee was for sometime before May 28th. My bad for not reading carefully enough but I’m still going to complain. Their verbal shenanigans still constitute a contract. Good thing we didn’t throw out the old one in this week’s trash.I want my damn couch.

I’m writing like a maniac to get to my 50,000 before the end of this month and have the first draft of The Salt Lover’s Book of Magic done. I’m getting close. It’s times like these that having a semi plan beforehand really helps. I’d be in trouble without it.

My husband, QV, thinks I’m nuts. I just told him he has to drive me on 295 to get photos of a farm I saw in passing a couple of weeks ago. I want to do a painting of it. I figure it’s safer if he takes me rather than my trying to take pictures while I’m driving 65 miles an hour. I’m such a responsible adult, aren’t I? Children don’t do this at home.

Another bright sunny day here in the ‘hood. These little birds keep attacking the screens on my front porch and living room windows. They hook their little feetsies in the mesh and peck at something, maybe bugs. They sure are having a good time, whatever it is they are after.

Oh, oh. We have a boat. QV had bought this nice little motor with his father years ago. They had it in the garage of one of his father’s “girlfriends” for years, even after QV’s father died. She tried to get QV to do some”work” on her house because this motor was stored there. I encouraged him to remove his engine from her garage (*giggles* intentional because I’m twelve.) So he sold it to this guy for $800. Well, now the motor is attached to this cute little boat and we are buying motor, boat and trailer for $1,000 bucks - really just $200. Can’t beat those numbers. I’ll be floating on the Delaware soon, so beware.

Flash 55 - New Beginnings

I accidentally deleted this Flash 55 post. I am trying to reconstruct it. It was about doing things I don't usually do. I had a drink at 8am and the world did not end. Bits and pieces are there. I hope I have it saved somewhere. That's why this post looks funny.

Thank-you secrect agent woman from Blogging Incognito for emailing me a copy from your reader and here it is:

I’ve been trying things outside my comfort zones.

Nothing major; just things I wouldn’t normally do; things others do without apparent bad consequences. Guilt covers me like a grey burial shroud; dry, dusty, dis-eased.

I drank a glass of wine at eight AM.
I felt wicked, loose, free; not guilty; the world did not end.

I love it.

I'm thinking about eating cookies for dinner tonight. Does that count?

I remember a decedent vacation where the cream in my breakfast coffee was Bailey's Irish, and my iced-tea for lunch was Manhattan. I had wine with dinner and was back to drinking Bailey's and coffee for dessert. sigh One of my favorite retreats ever.

While is shouldn't be surprising what doesn't kill us, somehow it is. Great 55. I should take more risk, but I will leave the wine out of it. Been there. Done that.
