I'm More Bored Than You

Your boredom doesn't begin to compare to mine. I've been collecting used dryer sheets and lint for quite some time now, saving it for the perfect project.

I've decided that embroidery stitch sampler panels using thread I've had forever tacking down lint on layers of worn out polyester panels will be the perfect metaphor for this time in our history.

It's pointless, useless, and absurd. It's even odd and kind of on the deranged side.

Might even be certifiable. But I'm already locked up, like some embarrassing family secret, so to hell with you.

Huh?

Rainbow candies rain down on my head while I lay on my rocking bed. The devil stands at my feet, lifting me in the air without touching me. He's laughing like a lunatic. His red skin bulges and slides across his frame in a sickening imitation of neon clay squeezed between the fingers of a fist.

White gauze bandages wrap my body like a mummy. My closet is my sarcophagus. Dark, narrow and airless, I panic and fall to the floor, bang my head on the door and wiggle around like worm.

My liver pulses to the beat of "Bang the Drum All Day" by Todd Rundgren. My mother had him over for breakfast. He broke into spontaneous song over runny eggs and burnt toast.

A maid, dressed like a robotic troll with green and pink hair, vacuums my room with a head of cauliflower. She looks at me through the looking glass so I can't steal her soul. I try to stop her from throwing out the pizza I have stored in the drawers of my armoire, but I can't get the words past the duct tape covering my mouth.

An Easter bunny in the corner complains about its missing eye and eaten left ear. I tell him he should be more worried about his melting tail. He insists on standing next to the tanning bed because white chocolate isn't real chocolate.

The cocktail of drugs I've taken from my father's medicine cabinet calm my nerves. I focus on cleaning and reassembling my guns. The smell of oil keeps me grounded. I point my .44 Magnum at my action figures and tell Captain America, "Make my day." My matte black Ruger snarls in response, blowing a hole into my bathroom.

Gerald, the green, hulking bodyguard my parents hired to be my keeper, locked all of my toys in the swimming pool because I don't like water. He said I can have them back when I take a shower. I stand in the center of the foyer, staring at the stained glass dome while he speaks. His words buzz in my head, slurred, unintelligible, yet threatening. Red mist moves in from the edges, swirling around me in a hot fog. It touches my naked body and I exploded in a thousand needles that pierce Gerald. He screams and falls to the black and white marble floor.

My phone rings.

God tells me to put Him on speaker so Puddles can hear Him. The Texas Teacup listens intently, cocking her head left and right, small pink tongue tasting the air. I don't understand the language they speak to each other, so I wait, sitting cross-legged, wrists resting on knees, counting my breaths to prove I have the patience of a true saint, to show the All Knowing I am worthy of any task He cares to bestow upon me.

My phone dies. I forgot to charge it.

Puddles walks over to me, her pink nails clicking across the floor. She opens her mouth and God's voice emanates: "Can you hear me, now?”

It’s the Sounds that will Push Me Over the Edge and Drive Me Fucking Insane

Never the sound of SILENCE.

All things phlegm. It’s this assiduous aural attack that begins and ends my days and fills every moment in between. From snorting, hacking, spitting and nose blowing, these cringe-worthy noises have me yearning to crawl within myself to find a safe place. I didn’t know it was possible for the body to produce mucus 365-24/7. Moments punctuated with the loud movement of bodily slime.

Incoherent grunts at 5am meant to be the words, “Good Morning.”

The chomping of horse teeth on soft food draws my shoulders up into my ears.

Milk slurped from a spoon that is first tapped on the side of a glass bowl rivals Robert’s eating ritual.

That damn razor, replaced now for the third time, buzzing over the non-existent hair on his cheeks.

Punching fist to palm eight times. It’s always eight times. He must count them because it’s always eight. Eight is a disturbing number.

Right foot, just the toe part, slapping the hardwood floor like a circus donkey counting for the crowd. Applaud one and all.

Shuffling into slippers; shuffling across the room. Shuffle. Shuffle. Shuffle.

Random tongue clicking, echoing.

Finger snapping when I don’t turn the channel quickly enough away from the Alex Trebek commercials or to the reruns of The Andy Griffith Show.

Me yelling: to get his attention, break into his obsessive train of thought or out of frustration and anger.

Stunning SILENCE from his bedroom at a rare 8:30am sleep-in that makes me afraid he died during the night.

Wednesday's Wonderings

I wonder what would happen in Georgia if someone took a gun into a church and killed everyone. His defense would be under the “Stand Your Ground” law because he felt threatened by all the guns he envisioned everyone carrying under the new “Guns Everywhere” law.

Another elected official changes her position when something hits her personally. Cindy Finch now thinks government regulation is needed since she couldn’t get a clean glass of water. Her turn-around begins at 10.30. What Sister Simone Campbell says about her meeting with Paul Ryan pretty much sums up the problem. I wonder if we make people participate in the 80’s movie Trading Places might they shed their sociopathic lack of empathy.

Memorial Day will be here soon. Let’s celebrate our veterans the way they do in Idaho. Just one more way this country that LOVES its veterans treats them like crap. Oh, yeah, and then there’s the Veterans' Affairs. I wonder if the only love we can show those we send to war is parades for those who died instead of caring for those living in emotional and physical pain.

It is not “exspecially.” I wonder if you know how estremely crazy this makes me.
