Exhausted

Hank Williams ~ I'm So Lonesome I Could Die

I am exhausted
by guilt
by sadness
by emptiness
by longing
by foolish hope
at times like these
times so frequent
like everyday
I am defective
there’s dust on my head
letters come out bacwkards
tears without the sobs
sham depression
since there’s no real reason
fake, false, faulty
I am forgotten
yet there’ll come a time
when the vacancy sign
comes down and out
pops that other
I just can’t find it right
now

I grew up listening to country music artists, such as, Hank Williams, who died in 1953, and waltzes, such as those by Franz Lehár

Franz Lehár ~ The Volga Song

I found the prompt for this post from Brian Miller. He directs us to mindlovemisery who suggests we use the music from the decade of our birth as the basis for inspiration.

  1. Your writing is fantastic, deeply felt, you have really captured the melancholy of the music =)

  3. I don't know if anyone else feels this way (I usually feel that no one else feels the way I do) but those words speak to me. I feel incredibly defective. I'm told how I'm supposed to feel, but I can only fake it for so long. I really wish I could quit working and just write and help my family. I know how that sounds, and it sounds pathetic and whiny.
I've given up my hope of ever being a recognized writer. It was a foolish hope because what I create is so far left of center that hardly anyone likes it. I've realized that this doesn't mean I'm a bad writer, just that I'm a bad example of a person in this particular world.
I'm having kind of a bad time right now. Not that this was obvious or anything!
Hope you're doing better than I am!

    1. I emailed you.

I am discovering that I need to speak with my real voice. If no one likes it, oh well. Write what you want. Writing is too personal to do it for any other reason.

  4. I agree about your 'real voice.' I tend not to for fear of offending as I have offended people in the past. You are right to write as you feel for when you do it not only reveals you but it makes the rest of us poor shmucks realise we aren't so very different after all. As Bowie once sang when I was seventeen "you're not alone."
    Good post.

    1. I offend people all of the time. I think I'm way to clever and usually say something really stupid.
