  2. Suicide is always a theme that resonates with me. Many people automatically get this attitude of superiority about people who take their own lives. Although I generally don't have strong suicidal feelings these days, as I used to very often in the past, I do understand the impulse. It is not about having lesser intelligence as many people assume in saying that people who commit suicide are "stupid." Many people who commit suicide have higher than average intelligence. It is also not an act of "selfishness." The person may be "thinking only of themselves," but this is because they can see nothing but the quagmire of pain.
I'm not preaching at you, mind. These are just thoughts that come to mind whenever suicide is the topic.
It is an amazing picture, BTW!

    1. Suicide is a tough subject. My suicide thoughts now a days are mostly very fleeting but as a teenager not so much. You are right that most people who feel the need for this way out are very misunderstood.

    2. Another thing that most folks don't get is that there's a difference between suicide ideation and actual planning, and that self-injury generally is not a suicide attempt although it is a cry for help. My suicidal thoughts most of the time are stress-based, and there is no actual planning. It's just one of those "all my stress would go away if I found a precipice to drive off" thoughts. Which can happen when you're under constant stress!
Boy was self-injury misunderstood back when I was in my teens, which is when I started doing it. Superficial cuts on my arm led to a weekend incarcerated in a psych ward, me being accused of a lot of things and called a "freak" by one nurse, me pissing off the shrink by being a smart ass, me being diagnosed as a "hysterical neurotic" (thanks for that jeeenyus assessment, Dr. Fraud!) but nobody addressing the bullying that I was enduring or the family stressors.
I'm always glad when people approach the issue of suicide with compassion and understanding. This doesn't happen in the general populace. So much educating still needs to be done!

    3. The underlying symptom for each is pain, just expressed in different ways. Pain of the soul is hard to understand, hard to fix. It requires lots of quiet patience and a willingness to listen to whatever the soul may express. Some people find such desolation hard to hear.

  3. Hmm. Is this a fictional book? It's got quite a hook.

  9. It's the word "says" that creates the tension and interest for me. Did she commit suicide? Or is someone trying to make us THINK SHE DID? Nicely done!
